This transitional style bridges the period between the ornate Louis XVI style and the more simple, classical Empire-style. Fluted legs are replaced with simple tapered legs and ornamentation consists of brass feet, the lozenge motif and "mourning" bars, the cabinetmakers expression of grief over the loss of their king and patron.
