Sika Design invites you to relax and enjoy the outdoors in the comfort and beauty of handcrafted furniture. Sika has recreated its coveted rattan pieces with Alu-Rattan™ and ArtFibre™ for the outdoors. The ultra-durable materials withstand the elements and climate and can be used outside year-round.
Sika is a Danish furniture manufacturer that produces handmade rattan furniture with an enduring emphasis on comfort, quality, design and sustainability. Ankjær Andreasen founded in the company in Horsens, Denmark, in 1940 – a place and a time feeling the pressures of World War II. With growing unemployment and a shortage of raw materials, Andreasen began producing wicker baskets using reeds gathered from the marshes and straw from the fields after harvest. He expanded Sika into furniture in the 1950s and 1960s, working with the best wicker makers in Denmark to perfect the art of rattan furniture.
The Exterior collection marries the elegant and timeless design of Sika’s Icons and Originals collections with Alu-Rattan™ and ArtFibre™. Alu-Rattan™ is a strong aluminium frame, while ArtFibre™ has a comfortable structure that provides the same flexibility and comfort as natural rattan. Every piece is contract-grade and maintenance-free so that it can be left outside year-round.
The Icons collection revives and revitalises the experimental furniture designed by some of the biggest names in twentieth-century Danish design. Viggo Boesen designed the Fox Lounge Chair (pictured below) with the philosophy that it should have an organic flow, embrace the body smoothly and tenderly and be a delight to the eye. Designed in 1936, with sweeping, curving and enveloping forms, the Fox Lounge Chair epitomises Boesen’s legacy.
The Paris Chair (pictured below) was Jacobsen’s first furniture design, winning a silver medal at the world-famous Exposition, Internationale des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 1925. The chair’s striking curvature recalls the geometric forms of Art Deco form and the seat and back curves to support the weight of the body. Jacobsen designed the original chair in rattan, and it is now available in Alu-Rattan™ and ArtFibre™ for the outdoors.
The Originals collection is inspired by Sika’s design sketches and successful models from the 1950s and 1960s. The classic Monet chair (pictured below) is Sika’s most popular high-backed chair, now suitable for outside. It has a beautiful shape to lie back and relax and is available with an optional foot stool and cushions.
The Caroline series, comprising a three-seater sofa (pictured below), lounge chair and lounge table, has a subtle tropical aesthetic suitable for inside and outside spaces. It has a traditional, upright shape, while still being airy, effortless and lightweight.
The Georgia Garden collection is inspired by vintage photographs and postcards of summer estates owned by British expats and aristocrats. This colonial style of furniture is both casual and formal, suitable for any picture-perfect outdoor setting.
The Dawn chair (pictured below) and sofa (pictured below left) is the picture of upright elegance with a high back, arm rests, a sturdy base and the option of a matching foot stool. What many would consider a traditional style, in a different setting these pieces can evoke a contemporary aesthetic. The Charlot sofas and chair are equally elegant, with a lower and subtly reclined back.

For alfresco dining, the Marie (pictured below) and Emma chairs are perennial favourites for patios, verandas and gardens. The Marie chair has a high back and is available with or without arms, while the Emma chair has a rounded sweeping back. Pair the chairs with a Grace or Victoria dining table, which have a round glass top and woven frame.
The Evelyn Swing (pictured below) is perfect for unwinding on summer days. With plenty of room for adults and children, the egg-shaped chair provides a cosy, enclosed seat and a pleasant sway.
