Prolific designer Pierre Guariche (1926 – 1995) worked as an interior decorator, architect and furniture designer. He commenced his studies at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (graduating 1949) before moving into the studio of Marcel Gascoin – one the leading furniture designers of the post-war era.
The year 1953 saw him design the designed the mythical Tonneau Chair for Steiner, first in plastic (1953) and then in bent plywood (1954). In 1954 Pierre founded the Atelier de Recherche Plastique with Joseph-André Motte and French furniture designer Michel Mortier. In 1957, he was named Artistic Director of collectable furniture manufacturer Meurop.
Pierre Guariche held a number of positions with schools in order to share his wealth of knowledge. As a designer, Guariche brought innovation and aestheticism to his design pieces, combining these with new production techniques and series production.
