The Charlottenborg Sofa is handmade in Indonesia by sustainable material Manau & Tahiti Rattan. The fine bindings in the seat and back are made by skilled wicker workers. The original Charlottenborg armchair was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1936 and shown for the first time at Charlottenborg’s spring exhibition in 1937. Later the chair was extended to this 2-seater sofa. The curving shapes became characteristic of Arne Jacobsen’s many famous designs, which can be traced in some of his early pieces of furniture. The sofa like the armchair has quite an unconventional shape, where the elegantly curved back of solid rattan goes in one with the armrests, both of which are beautifully integrated into the bottom of the sofa. In addition to the rattan frame, the sofa is fitted with a firm padded seat that comes in many different durable fabric variants. The elegant and comfortable sofa is a beautiful contribution to any modern chair.
