Description

The rattan Robert Dining Chair by Sika Design is an exclusive wicker chair designed by Robert W.

Robert W is known as the pioneer in the production of rattan furniture. He set the course for how we, through solid craftsmanship and by challenging the possibilities of the material, produce rattan furniture today.

The chair is handmade with great expertise and the fine detailed windings in the seat and back are made on a rattan frame. The design uses carefully selected rattan for furniture production to ensure the highest quality.

Rattan is often compared to bamboo, but unlike bamboo which is hollow, rattan is a solid material. Rattan is a remarkably strong and indestructible material and you therefore get a unique piece of furniture that can last for generations.

The Robert Dining Chair was designed in 1901 and forms part of the Sika Design ICONS collection. The ICONS collection represents relaunched design products from some of the world’s greatest and most acclaimed designers of their time.

A seat cushion for Robert chair can be purchased separately.

Robert W

Robert W. (1825-1902) was renowned as the very best wicker maker in Denmark and was appointed purveyor to Her Majesty. He was a pioneer in rattan production. How Robert W pushed the boundaries of craftsmanship and challenged the material laid the groundwork for the way we know rattan furniture today.

Many, now famous, architects came to his workshop to understand weaving and wicker work and made prototypes in Robert W’s Copenhagen workshop.
