Caroline House is the new forever home of a semi-retired couple. They engaged Cera Stribley Architects to design their three-bedroom home located on a quaint street in South Yarra, Melbourne. With a focus on space, natural light and fluidity, Caroline House has a sculptural quality that is also reflected in the furniture.
Brickwork and dark folded cladding accentuate the strong geometric exterior of the house, while light and open interior has a double-height void at the entrance and spiral staircase in the centre. Siobhan Glass, creative director and founder of Neighbourhood Property Styling, selected furniture to complement the contemporary architecture.
The living area features Ligne Roset’s Ploum sofa and two HC28 Palm Beach armchairs. Designed by the Bouroullec brothers, Ploum is one of DOMO’s most popular products, its ample and ultra-soft curves offering supreme comfort. In Caroline House, its rounded shape complements the curved wall of the staircase and it is positioned on an angle to create a more relaxed and social living space.
The HC28 Palm Beach armchairs are a counterpoint to the sofa, the black frame and upholstery accentuating the strong geometric lines. HC28 combines European design with efficient manufacturing to produce contemporary high-end furniture that is particularly well suited to newer builds, making it an appealing collection for designers and consumers alike.
A natural-coloured area rug with diagonal patterning ties the setting together, and the three-legged Vermobil Désirée Kit Side Table provides a compact, versatile solution.
The Désirée Rope Armchairs out on the rear deck are from Vermobil’s 2018 collection. The armchairs have a round, low form with a rope-wrapped framework and comfortable cushions. “This is hands down my favourite outdoor setting. It’s a fantastic colour, soft to sit in and has a lovely rope detail,” Siobhan tells us. The powder-coated galvanised steel frame is water and frost resistant, making it ideal for year-round living.
Upstairs, Ligne Roset Grillage Armchair brightens the balcony off the master bedroom. It too has a sculptural form with curved and folded steel mesh providing comfortable and ergonomic surfaces. “I love its soft and floaty shape that pairs well with the sheer curtains,” says Siobhan.
