The Riverside Centre, Brisbane, is a business location and landmark in the heart of the town’s prestigious Golden Triangle. The building provides the backdrop for a productive, successful and pleasant workplace experience.
The architect of the Riverside Centre, Austrian-born Harry Seidler, made a name for himself in Australia, having designed more than 180 Bauhaus-style buildings. One of his most famous, the Riverside Centre on Brisbane’s waterfront, is quite something!
The building itself towers 146 meters into the sky and has helped shaped the glitzy image of the metropolis “Brizzy” Brisbane since its completion in 1986. The delightfully winding terraces and urban landscape design seating meandering around green spaces break with the Bauhaus style in the exterior. Their shape architecturally traces the waves and river courses of the nearby Brisbane River.
And inside the Riverside Centre, Brisbane? There during the 2018 redevelopment with architecture and interior design by KPDO Kerry, the iconic DS-600 snake sofa was added. Designed by by Switzerland’s de Sede’s, the snake sofa winds its way through the reception and cafe area in the entrance. The DS-600 snake sofa imitates the meandering course of the river.
The idea of a convex and concave curved sofa impressed those in charge, as its modular seating elements allow the DS-600 to be moved repeatedly into various positions and wave-like arrangements.
If the DS-600 even made it into the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest sofa in the world, its modular design makes it ideal for adding a special charm to environments.
