The Pumpkin Armchair is characteristic of Pierre Paulin’s revolutionary design style. As its name suggests, this Ligne Roset seat is evocative of a giant pumpkin, welcoming the user with its protectively voluptuous – and voluptuously protective – shell.
Originally created by Pierre Paulin for Ligne Roset in 1971, the armchair was designed for the private apartments of Claude and Georges Pompidou, at the Elysée Palace. It has since been put into large-scale production.
Construction of the Pumpkin Armchair:
Seat and backrest: moulded polyurethane, with a ‘comfort’ layer in the same foam.
Base and mid-section: polyether foam, resting on a thermoformed ABS base.
Exterior mid-section: polyether foam.
Covers on seat and back: 100g/m2 polyester.
Base: stationary, non-swivel base.
This iconic Pumpkin Armchair works well in a cluster setting or alone as a feature armchair.
