The Pumpkin Footstool is characteristic of Pierre Paulin’s revolutionary design style. As its name suggests, this Ligne Roset stool is evocative of a giant pumpkin, welcoming the user with its protectively voluptuous – and voluptuously protective – shell.
Originally created by Pierre Paulin for Ligne Roset in 1971, the Pumpkin Footstool was designed for the private apartments of Claude and Georges Pompidou, at the Elysée Palace. It has since been put into large-scale production.
Construction:
Footrest area: moulded polyurethane, with a ‘comfort’ layer in the same foam.
Base and mid-section: polyether foam, resting on a thermoformed ABS base.
Exterior mid-section: polyether foam.
Covers on seat and back: 100g/m2 polyester.
Born in Paris in 1927, Pierre Paulin is known for introducing a sleek new space-age aesthetic into French furniture design in the 1960s and ’70s. His work has become synonymous with chic, forward-looking design and emerging technologies.
